PSHE

We have designed our Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE) curriculum so that it encourages and enables pupils to further their understanding of themselves, others, the fundamental British values and the Protected Characteristics.

A key element of our PSHE curriculum is focussed on teaching pupils how to stay safe, both in real life and online. The curriculum map for this element of safeguarding is attached below.

Pupils are led to reflect upon how and why we behave and the ways in which they can help themselves to develop their personalities in a manner conducive to forming strong and positive relationships.

In PSHE lessons, pupils are encouraged to reflect upon a range of age-appropriate issues, questions or dilemmas that they may already be familiar with or experience in later life.

PSHE is taught in such a manner that pupils feel able to, and comfortable in, sharing their own ideas and listening respectfully to those of others. Lessons are made engaging through the provision of various types of activities and opportunities for pupils to express themselves in a number of ways.

Pupils are supported through high-quality differentiation and scaffolding. Every child in the school is given further opportunities to reflect, share opinions and develop their understanding of themselves and others through class, phase, key stage and whole-school assemblies. Opportunities for discussion, debate and the sharing of views are also built into the wider curriculum.

We also help pupils to further their personal development and their social, moral, spiritual and cultural development (SMSC) across a number of areas, both within the curriculum and wider school life. A document detailing these opportunities is attached below.
