Maths
We want all children at Anns Grove to become competent and fluent mathematicians.
Our curriculum is built to develop fluency and conceptual understanding, using concrete, pictorial and symbolic representations and making connections between them.
Our maths curriculum is designed and sequenced so that the children are developing mathematical knowledge and skills and the ability to reason and solve problems.
Children are given opportunities to apply their mathematical knowledge in other curriculum areas.
Maths lessons are planned using the national curriculum and objectives from Whiterose Maths schemes of work.
When delivering maths lessons, teachers use our ‘Skill, application, Challenge’ teaching model which is designed to support our children as fluent mathematicians who can reason and problem solve effectively by applying their skills to a range of contexts.
Our bespoke calculation policy is designed to ensure a consistent approach is used by all teachers so that children build in confidence over time.
Children are taught times tables daily and are shown strategies so they can recall them quickly and use them in different contexts.
All children in KS2 have Timestable Rockstars accounts and KS1 children have accounts for numbots so that they can practise at home.
Maths homework is given every week in years one to six to consolidate the learning from that week.
